Friends of St George & St Mary’s – Fundraising

Dear All,

Please do not think that, since you may not have heard from us for a while that nothing is going on with the project to repair and reopen St George and St Mary’s Church. Nothing could be further from the truth!

After a monumental effort, we submitted our bid to the National Heritage Lottery Fund last December with umpteen pages of documents and spreadsheets in the next bid for funding. We expect to hear in March and as we have had a couple of requests for more information, we are very hopeful. Watch this space and look out for the next edition of our newsletter.

Once we get the go ahead, fundraising is going to be crucial. Our latest initiative is via the easy fundraising app. Now, if that term is unfamiliar, please stay with me; this may not be for you, but you may have friends and relatives who will be interested. Easyfundraising partners with over 8,000 brands who will donate part of what you spend to a cause of your choice. It won’t cost you any extra. The cost is covered by the brand. Firstly, here is a link to the website – this will explain far better than I can:

https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk

I followed the link below, found the app on Google play and installed it onto my phone. I had to allow my phone some accessibility which I wasn’t sure about but once I read carefully why I needed to do this, that was ok. I also get loads of emails from ‘Josh’ though now, I’m all set up, I think I could unsubscribe from those.

The link to our fundraising page for St George and St Mary’s is here:

Alternatively, look for our Facebook page ‘Friends of St George and St Mary’s’ and you’ll find the link there.

Finally, please can I reassure you that we would not be recommending this if we didn’t trust it 100%. The idea came from another local church who had set it up and although they’re not raising thousands of pounds, as they say ‘every little helps’. All the info you may need is on the website.

Please look out for news and events coming up soon and we’ll keep you posted.
