Weddings

As our beautiful building is currently closed we cannot, unfortunately, conduct weddings at St George’s and St Mary’s. However, will happily read Banns of marriage if you are living in this parish but choosing to get married in a Church of England church elsewhere.

If you live in the parish, or have a qualifying connection to St George and St Mary’s (this can be a number of different types, either parents still live here, or relatives worship, worshipped or got married here) you have a right to be married in the parish church. This happens traditionally on a Saturday, but other days are available!

The current cost is approximately £600, which covers everything except a professional video licence.

If you live in the parish but are getting married in another parish church you will need to have your wedding banns read here at St George’s before that can happen. The banns are read at 3 Sunday services and a certificate is written out at the completion of this to be handed to the officiating minister of the church in which you are getting married. This is easily done and involves the minister or overseer checking your identification and then making the arrangements. The current fee for this is £42.

Contact the church office to arrange having banns read. To enquire about booking a wedding at St George’s, come to one of our Worship Altogether services at 10am on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month and chat to the Vicar over coffee after the service.

Derby Diocese produce their own wedding booklet, which has some useful information, you can view it here.
