Friends – Historic England News

Dear Friends of St George and St Mary’s,

We have now been invited to progress to a full application under Historic England’s Regional Repair and Maintenance Scheme (instead of the Places of Worship Renewal Fund, for those who want more information). This is following our chair Alan’s pushback response to their initial deferral, and more importantly behind the scenes discussions between Historic England and the staff of our MP, Samantha Niblett. However, we cannot thank Alan enough for his determination, diligence and fortitude not to give up and to continue to persevere to get the job done, to repair and reopen St George and St Mary’s Church.

We have six months in which to apply. We have yet to investigate the full parameters of this alternative fund, but there was no caveat with their invitation. So, we hope we are back on track, and although there will inevitably be some overall delay in the timing of the project, we feel, at last, that we have something to truly celebrate!

Please continue to look for posts on our Facebook page and up dates via email. We cannot stress enough how important it is to spread this news to friends, family and colleagues in our community that all is not lost, we haven’t given up, progress is being made and we remain optimistic.

Kind regards,

The Friends of St George and St Mary’s, Church Gresley
